3R Fresh Face Search
After one month of searching all over the country, we narrowed down 15 Finalists from nearly 500 people who came for the auditions. The 3R Fresh Face Finals is not a beauty pageant and we were searching for a host who is intelligent, outgoing, confident, spontaneous, and can work well in a team. The new host would have been able to speak about a variety of topical issues, especially issues related to women empowerment - a host who will be able to carry through the 3R mindset and attitude. The 15 Finalists came from all walks of life ranging from students to an auditor to a freelance journalist.
The Winner of the Finals is Kartini Kamalul Arffin, 24, from Selangor. After winning the chance to be the new host of 3R and starting work as a host, she said,"I'm feeling excited and nervous at the same time. I've never done any sort of television work before - but after a few sessions of shooting, I'm more comfortable with the camera and think that this could be challenging and fun too. It is widening my horizon and I'm seeing life from many different perspectives."
The Judging Process
The Finalists went through two sets of activities to test their abilities as a 3R host- one pre-recorded and the other live on stage to an audience of approximately 400 over.
Round 1
Finalists were put together in groups of 3 and were given living skills test (checking a car to see if it is fit for the road), a physical test (a simple outdoor obstacle course to test their endurance) and piece to camera (talking to the camera about any chosen topic). All the tests above were done a day before the Finals.
Round 2
On the day of the Finals, the Finalists presented on stage the following:
-
A short and creative introduction of themselves to the audience.
-
Improvisation with 2 other current 3R Hosts to see how they cope with different scenarios
-
Answer a fun question to gauge their sense of humour, spontaneity and ability to think on their feet..
-
The judging criteria included teamwork, Intelligence, Visual Friendliness, sense of Humour, Spontaneous Ability to respond to various situations, Command of both Bahasa Malaysia and English, and Compatibility with the 2 other 3R Hosts.

3R Nationwide Roadshow
So, 3R launched its fifth season with a nationwide roadshow to look for a new host. We were in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Bahru, KL, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. The 3 host - Rafidah, Yuen and Azah made an appearance at all the venues to add to the atmosphere of the roadshow. During the roadshow, a contest to guess who was leaving 3R was ongoing. Audiences had to guess who was leaving and draw 3R logo in the most creative way possible.
The one month long roadshow in August was successful on many fronts. Besides having many young women coming to try their luck in their auditions for the new host, many young people came in full force to meet the 3R Hosts at the venues. The 3R Hosts gave many safety tips to the crowds and also asked them their opinion of 3R. Besides that, 3R's safety video, RESPOND, was given out to representative from primary and secondary schools who came to the venues during the roadshow. The roadshow gave 3R and the viewers to meet in person and to exchange ideas and friendship.

Goodbye Rafidah.
So finally we have revealed who is leaving 3R. Rafidah Abdullah, one of the hosts of 3R left the programme to pursue her Masters in Scriptwriting in Goldsmiths College, London on 19th September 2002. Rafidah was one of the recipients of the British Chevening Scholarship given by the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Rafidah has been a host since 3R first launched in the year 2000. Rafidah who has a degree in law from University Malaya, was also one of the regular scriptwriters on the show and contributor of articles to the 3R website. At the same time, this scholarship is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I hope everyone will continue to support 3R as well as the new host," said Rafidah.
