3R Launch Charlie's Angels
Malaysian fans of the highly-acclaimed action packed movie Charlie's Angels will have the opportunity to be the first to catch the premiere screening of its upcoming sequel, Charlie's Angels 2 - Full Throttle, while doing their bid towards a good cause at the same time.
Organized by Tanjong Golden Village (TGV) Cinemas, the Charlie's Angels 2 - Full Throttle Charity Premier will be held at TGV KLCC on June 24, 2003 in conjunction with its 8th Anniversary Celebrations and will be launched by the hosts of 3R Azah, Yuen and Kartini.
Fund raised from the Charity Premier will be channeled directly towards assisting the Women's Aid Organization. Established in 1982, WAO provides shelter to over 100 women and their children and counsels more than 1,000 women on the telephone every year.
Ivy Josiah, Executive Director of WAO said, "Empowerment of young women is an important aspect of our work to strive for gender equality, and it is good to see women portrayed in a more multi-faceted manner in the media through this film. This better reflects the diverse roles played by women in society. Although we can't all be Charlie's Angels and although Charlie's Angels does not necessarily incorporate the perfect woman, it is interesting to spark off a debate with the young women of Malaysia on the kind of role models they deem inspirational."
Josiah adds, "WAO is also happy to partner with corporations that supports our work to end violence against women and gender-based discrimination, and would like to extend our greatest appreciation to TGV, Buena Vista Columbia Tristar, 3R and the Bodyshop."
"3R (Respect, Relax, Respond), the infotainment program for young women is happy to support WAO's fund raising efforts," said Lina Tan, co-executive producer or 3R. "3R's objective is to empower young women. Hence 3R gladly supports the work of organisations like WAO to address issues like domestic violence, rape and abuse."
3R has worked with WAO previously on various projects like International Women's Day and the 16 Days Activism Against Gender Violence. For the premier of Charlie's Angels, the fun and energetic hosts of 3R Azah, Yuen and Kartini will present a short action packed "women power" activity before the start of the movie. It'll be a fabulous night of fun and femme force!

International Women's Day 2003, Kuching Sarawak
3R was in Kuching on 8th March 2003 to celebrate International Women's Day. This year's celebration takes on a proactive stance to stop violence against women with the theme Find Out, Speak Up and Take Action! Organized by 3R, Women's Aid Organization (WAO) and All Women's Action Society (AWAM), this day has been celebrated every year all over the world by women working and fighting for a better world.
The Celebrations started at 1:00pm when the 3R girls arrived on their motorbikes at the Kuching Waterfront. Datuk Seri Shahrizat, Minister of Women and Family Development officiated the day followed by the first ever cheerleading competition in Sarawak. 3R actually brought trainers a few weeks before to teach the girls from St. Mary and St. Theresa's school how to do cheerleading. They were fast learners and nine teams from the schools put up a great show for the crowd. The winner for the day was Blazin Stars from St. Theresa. We also brought the champion cheerleading team from Kuala Lumpur to add excitement to the interschool cheerleading competition in Kuching. They were the girls from Sri Bintang school.
All day long there were also information booths put up by WAO, AWAM, Sarawak Women for Women Society, Women's Bureau, Sisters In Islam and many more NGOs. The public could go there and get all kinds of information especially for women. There was also fun interactive booth like the Kotex booth where the crowd all went home with prizes.
This year the 3R hosts performed a song called "STOP" along with other young upcoming artists like VE, Deja Moss, Syafinaz, Hazami, Ellyana and local indigenous band Tuku Kame.
So why did 3R chose to go to Kuching this year? Answered Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Executive Producer of 3R, "3R has always been more than just a television programme. Our aim is to empower women via different ways. Television and our website helps us reach the masses and our on-ground activities is a way for us to get up close and personal with our target audience. We decided this year to meet our audiences in Sarawak as we have a big following in East Malaysia. "
3R had a lot of fun in Kuching and so did the fans.

3R hosts Kotex Girl's Power Party in Kluang, Johor
3R goes to Kluang for Kotex Girl's Power Party. Held on April 5th 2003, the stadium in Kluang was filled with 5,000 over school girls who had all gotten free passes by exchanging it with a kotex polybag. Yuen, Azah and Kartini treated the school girls to a 2 hour party and they invited good friend Siti Nurhaliza and Anuar Zain along to the party.
The party kicked off with Yuen, Azah and Kartini teaching the girls to the dance steps of "Stop", the song by Spice Girls. The 3R hosts then sang the song together and had all the audience on their feet dancing along. Then a short fun skit about periods was next. Kartini's 'boyfriend' Anuar Zain was asked to buy some pads for her when Kartini's 'bestfriend' Azah was out shopping. Anuar very sportingly went along and he had to deal with garang 'shopkeeper' Yuen who scolded him for not knowing what brand of pads that his 'girlfriend' likes.
After the skit, Anuar sang his hit songs Keabadian Cinta, Suria & Siarra and Permata for the audience and showed us why he was voted Best Male Singer at the Anugerah Industry Music recently. Next Siti came on stage and played some football with the girls. It was Siti "Owen" vs Kartini "Beckham". The score was Siti 0, Kartini 1.
Siti then took to the stage and sang songs from her new and old album including Nirmala, Bukan Cinta Biasa and Bukan Milikmu. The audience sang along with Siti with each song.
The winning schools that had took part in the Kotex Collection Contest was announced and Sekolah Menegah Tinggi Kluang was the first prize winner. They took home 3 computers for their effort in collecting as many Kotex polybags as possible from the students.
For the finale, the 3R hosts, Siti and Anuar joined by all 5,000 over audience sang and danced to "Stop". It was a fun event and certainly one that will not be forgotten by the audiences in Kluang for a long time to come. Catch this party on air in episode 5 on 1st June on TV3 and 6 June on Astro Ria. |
