Rafidah was just another lost little law graduate searching for life’s meaning when she fatefully auditioned for a new TV programme for young women called 3R – Respek, Relaks, Respon. The rest, as they say, is history. Rafidah entered the world of television and since then has never looked back. Having always wanted to become a writer, she was given the opportunity to write scripts for 3R, and soon she was writing for other shows, such as Generasi, Satelit and Table For Two.
In 2002, Rafidah was awarded a Chevening Scholarship by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and left 3R to pursue her Master’s degree in Scriptwriting. Her new degree gave her the confidence to start writing for the big screen, and her debut feature, Gol & Gincu (2005), opened to critical acclaim. The film spawned a well-beloved drama series of the same name, and Rafidah headed the writing team for the project. Soon, she was writing, developing and creating other drama series, including Impian Illyana, Blogger Boy, Apa Dosaku – The Sybil Kathigasu Story, and Waktu Rehat – the first Bahasa Malaysia production by Disney Channel.
In the meantime, Rafidah also developed other film projects, such as Pisau Cukur (2009), Istanbul Aku Datang (2012), and the upcoming Kami Histeria and Manisnya Cinta – her first adaptation of a novel. Besides writing scripts, Rafidah also enjoys writing song lyrics, and her collaborations with various composers has resulted in chart-topping hits such as Generasiku (Radhi OAG), Berdiri (Suki), E.R.T (Farah Asyikin), Lihatlah Dunia (Stacy), Kotarayaku (Altimet & Noh Hujan) and Aku Datang (Tomok), among others.
In 2004, when Azah left 3R to pursue her Master’s degree, Rafidah was asked to return and co-host the show alongside Kartini and Celina. Aside from hosting 3R, Rafidah has also hosted several children’s programmes, such as Breeze Padang Pintar, Syoknya Sains, and Clever! in which she was a mad scientist performing crazy experiments. Rafidah also spent time as a real-life teacher when she taught Script Analysis (Film) for a semester at Sunway University.
At present, aside from her various scriptwriting projects, Rafidah is enjoying learning new skills, such as playing the piano, and indulging her passion for futsal. Her ultimate dream is to write best-selling and award-winning novels which will make her as revered as Haruki Murakami and as rich as JK Rowling.
