3R - Respect Relax Respond IS A WINNER IN THE ASIAN TELEVISION AWARDS 2002

3R (Respect, Relax, Respond) won Best Infotainment Program in the recent Asian Television Awards 2002. This was the only Malaysian entry to win an award during the awards ceremony held on December 4th 2002 in the University Cultural Centre in Singapore. 3R managed to beat entries from Singapore and China in the Best Infotainment Category, where entries are judged on how accurate and important information is put across in an engaging manner.

"This affairms the concept of 3R where information about the many issues that women face can be provided if it is put in a creative and entertaining way," said Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Executive Producer of 3R.

"We are really happy to win this award as it means recognition for the hard work we have put in to the program," said Lina Tan, co-Executive Producer and producer of 3R. "I think the success of the program is due to the involvement of everyone in the production team including the 3 hosts of the show. The team understands the issues and wants to make a difference in young women's lives as well as in television programming."

3R was also nominated for another award, Best Youth Program, which they were highly commended for. Overall, the Awards attracted 1,300 entries, the highest ever since the event was launched in 1995. Judging was by a panel of 49 international judges who were either heads of Channels, executive producers or managers of the various channels around the region including international channels like Discovery, MTV and NHK. "The judging process took place over several weeks. The high standards we saw this year made their jobs all that more difficult," said Jonathan Hallett, Chairman of Judges, Asian Television Awards 2002.

The 3R hosts Low Ngai Yuen, Azah Yazmin Yusoff and newcomer Kartini Kamalul Arrifin were invited to present an award for the night. "We were excited to be sharing the same stage as celebrities from all over Asia like Steven Chow Sing Chi, Donita Rose and Pierre Png," said Ngai Yuen. "It was an honour to be asked to present an award that night but the highlight was definitely winning an award."

Kartini who replaces Rafidah Abdullah after the latter left for England to further her studies said, "I feel more pressure now because we have won an award but I am sure we will do as well next year with the production team's support."

"The production team in Red Communications is a dedicated bunch and I think this award will inspire them to produce an even better program next season so watch out for it," said Lina Tan.

3R is currently off air, having ended its 5th season last October 2002. It goes back on air for its sixth season beginning in March on TV3 and on Astro Ria.

3R is produced jointly by Mosaique Communications and Red Communications Sdn Bhd. Sponsors for 3R are Maybelline, Ford, TMnet, Kotex and Nestle.
